Postal charges up

Inland toll calls will cost more from April 1, the Post Office announced yesterday. Postal rates will rise from May 1 and telephone rentals from May 16. Details are:— Telephone rentals (effective May 16, 1986), with present rates in brackets: Residential, $41.50 ($35.50); business, $183.50 ($136), $138.50 ($102.50), $55.50 ($4l). Telex Rentals (effective April 1, 1986) (Monthly charge): Terminal with tape, $2OO ($170); terminal with electronic memory VDU: $260 ($290). Inland toll charges (effective April 1, 1986), Mon to Sat, excluding public holidays; (Basic rates for three-minute

calls), Peak, Up to 40km: 17c (14c); Over 245 km Up to 325 km: $2.40 ($2.01); Over 650 km: $3.93 ($3.27). Standard: 17c (14c), $2.10 ($1.74), $3.42 ($2.85). Night: 17c (14c), $1.47 ($1.23), $2.58 ($2.16). Offpeak: 8c (7c), 72c (60c), $1.29 ($1.02). Public call boxes (local calls only): No change (10c). International telephone and telex calls (effective April 1, 1986).— Telephone (per minute), Classified 1: South-West Pacific, no change ($1.40); Commonwealth, $2.80 ($2.40); Foreign, no change, ($2.80).
