Australian entry for Brandon series?

A trip to Christchurch next month to oppose the best New Zealand three-year-olds in the $300,000 John Brandon Series at Addington Raceway is under consideration for Alpine Fella. Trained at Kilmore by Bob Knight he was a runaway winner by 22m at Moonee Valley recently, rating 2min 1.7 s for a mobile 2380 m.

A week earlier he was an easy winner at Kilmore when making his debut in Australia. Vin Knight, who drove the gelding, rates him the equal of his top-ranked

colt, Smooth Falcon, winner of the Victorian Derby recently, and thinks he will improve even more than that classic winner in the next few months. Alpine Fella, which paced his last 800 m in 57.9 s in his latest win, had two starts for Trevor Allingham, of Pukekohe, who raced him in partnership with his wife. He won at his second attempt in the Morrinsville Juvenile Stakes before being sold to Australasian Bloodstock and Racing last March. He was then syndicated for $lOO,OOO. His race career was

interrupted by a number of setbacks, the major one being a dislocated shoulder.

Alpine Fella is by Smooth Fella from Alpine Meadow, the dam also of Without Fear, Meadow Robyn and Tudor King.
