Canterbury Belle impressive
PA Auckland Canterbury Belle turned in one of the best gallops at Takaninl this season during training yesterday for the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting at . Ellerslie tomorrow. Ridden by Mrs Jan Kerr, wife of trainer, Dave Kerr and the mare’s attendant on this trip north, Canterbury Belle ran 1600 metres on the inside of the No. 2 grass in Imin 40s. Canterbury Belle covered the first 800 metres in 49.4 s and looked to pull up well. Mr Chicken George showed his readiness for the Boeing 767 Handicap by running 1600 metres in Imin 42.85, beginning easily and covering the last 1200 m in Imin 14.85. Nakama and Carlos Lopez kept together over 1600 m in Imin 44.65. They ran the last 1200 m in Imin 17.2 s and 600 m in 39.25.
