New health chief
PA Wellington Dr George Salmond has been appointed DirectorGeneral of Health. The appointment to the post has been announced by the chairman of the State Services Commission, Dr Mervyn Probine. Dr Salmond succeeds Dr Ronald Barker, who will retire at the end of March. Dr Salmond joined the Health Department in 1971 as principal health officer. In 1973 he,, became director of the department’s management services and research unit He moved into the Deputy Director-General post in 1983.
