Mount Cook Group changes structure

Two aviation divisions have been combined under one management and a new ski division has been formed in changes announced by the chief executive of the Mount Cook Group, Ltd, Mr N. F. Tolerton.

The main airline operation, with a fleet of eight aircraft, six of them HS--748 airliners, has been joined by the 20 flightseeing aircraft and eight agricultural aircraft of the general aviation divisions, said Mr Tolerton.

Management of the enlarged division will be by the company’s most senior manager, Mr M. L. Corner, as general manager airlines. He will also retain the title of deputy chief executive. Coach and motor home operations come under Landline division management — headed by Mr R. R. Forward as manager,

with Mr R. S. King assisting as administration manager of Landline. Motor homes will operate as a separate profit centre under Mr F. U. Gunn. “Landline is a strong operation which we plan to expand,” Mr Tolerton said. The two ski areas of Coronet Peak and the new field of The Remarkables have been combined into a ski-recreation division with Mr J. M. Cooper as manager. Mr R. J. Robinson continues as manager of Coronet Peak. A new position of marketing manager for the group has been introduced and advertised widely. Mr Tolerton said the marketing manager would control and co-ordi-nate the functions set up over the past year such as field marketing and planning. He will be based in Christchurch and will

have direct contact with divisional managers to ensure smooth co-ordination of marketing operations. “The future strength of the Mount Cook Group depends on how well we analyse and estimate our markets, the objectives that are set to achieve growing market share, and the strategies developed to achieve these objectives,” said Mr Tolerton.

Mr P. F. Andrews becomes marketing administration manager, and will continue to be the company’s senior manager in Auckland.

All divisions will report direct to the chief executive, with divisional managers becoming totally responsible for their operations and the achievement of planned results and future development, according to Mr Tolerton.
