Three shows

Now living in London, Teresa Maguire has previously exhibited work both at the C.S.A. (in October 1981 and March 1983) and the Robert McDougall galleries.

She has also shown work in Australia where she lived for two years prior to her move to Britain. Well known for her paintings of domestic interiors in acrylic on canvas, the 12 new paintings she is exhibiting are executed in brightly coloured inks on shiny paper.

In each the reclining figure pushes outwards creating enclosed Interior spaces. Concentrating on the upper torso, head and limbs, Teresa Maguire has created contemplative images with the clothed female figure.

Kees Bruin continues with his technique of hyper-realist painting and drawing. He has exhibited several times at the C.S.A. His current preoccupation with twilight and night time views is evident in this show. ' ■ A collection of Medici

prints, coloured reproductions of old masters, will also be on display at the C.S.A. Gallery. These were formally presented to the Canterbury Art Society by Mrs Hurst Seagar on April 16, 1914, on behalf of a committee who raised the funds to purchase the collection.

The prints are in the main reduced facsimiles of the originals and are produced by a special process which enables all the features of the originals’ colouring to be accurately preserved. What gives them additional interest is the fact that they bear exact replicas of the frames which surround the originals.

The collection was intended “for the inspiration of artists and an encouragement to them to aspire to higher and better things; as an education to art students and as an encouragement to the general public to interest themselves in art in its higher forms.” _

All exhibitions are open to the public from February 19 until March 2.
