No call for ship visit

PA Wellington Britain’s Chief of Defence Staff Admiral of the Fleet, Sir John Fieldhouse, said yesterday that he had not made a request for a British ship visit to New Zealand when he met the Prime Minister, Mr Lange. Admiral Fieldhouse said he did not ask for a ship visit or “anything” during his 35-minute meeting at Parliament Buildings with Mr Lange.

He had not asked for a visit because “we have not got to that point.”

Sir John said it would be sad if the normal exchange of visits between New Zealand and Britain did not continue.
