Comet appears again

NZPA-AAP Alice Springs Halley’s Comet made its first reapperance over Australia just before sunrise on Monday ingAn American computer engineer at the Pine Gap joint defence facility spotted the comet with a binocular. Mr Paul Lavoie said the comet was about 5 deg. above the horizon slightly south of due east 45 minutes before sunrise,

“I kept it in view for 11 minutes before the morning twilight washed it out,” he said. “It looked like a fuzzy ball with a short tail and was considerably brighter than when I saw it in January.” Mr Lavoie said the tail was not as long as he had expected, but this might have been because the morning light impededthe view.
