Know Angel a first

Special correspondent Dunedin Roy Scott, a North Taieri plasterer, won with the first horse he has saddled as an ownertrainer when Know Angel was successful in the Lion Red Maiden at Wingatui yesterday. Scott took over the training of Know Angel last month after the four-year-old King’s Palace —Red Angel gelding had been placed in one of his three starts for the Wingatui trainer, Hec Anderton.

Know Angel was given to Scott by Wingatui horseman, Jim Pankhurst, as a two-year-old. Know

Angel was then a colt and had been given to Pankhurst after being passed in at the South Island sale. Scott had raced three other horses without success. Lisa Fraser notched her first win when she teamed with No Techie in the race for apprentice riders.

Fraser, who is apprenticed to No Techie’s Wingatui trainer, Cliff ReeseJones, was having her third race ride. No Techie dashed to the front at the 400 metres after trailing the leaders and won decisively.

Di Bowbyes and her husband, Doctor John Bowbyes, the Wirongoa Valley owners, were represented by their fifth individual winner for the season when Streuth was successful in the Outram Maiden yesterday.

Their other winners are Vrinsk, whose two wins include the Hokitika Cup, The Thief (three), My Name’s Good and Hwyl. Vrinsk and The Thief are trained by Dave Kerr at Riccarton. Mrs Boybyes trains My Name’s Good, Streuth and Hwyl.

Streuth came from back in the field and ran the 2200 metres out strongly.
