Bidston Hill fancied at Hastings today

Special correspondent Wellington A return to middle distance racing is expected to help Bidston Hill back to winning form in the Farmlands Bayer Handicap, first leg of the Napier Park Racing Club’s T.A.B. double at Hastings today. Hassendean freshup at Woodville on January 11. He failed to flatter last time over 1600 metres at Awapuni but the 2000 metres today will be more to his liking. Il Vento’s form lately is only moderate—he was seventh in the Wairoa Cup at his last start—but he has a great liking for the Hastings track and has won three races at 2000 metres there. Mighty Vain has been mixing his distances lately but must rate a chance after a useful fifth at Matamata last Saturday.

He has returned some useful efforts in good company this season. Gay Kitty should prove hard to catch in the Gilbeys Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B. double. She was not disgraced when tried over 2000 metres at her latest start and prior to that had won over 1400 metres at Awapuni. Gay Kitty’ss strongest rivals could be Amber Man and Reutemann, which both have good records on the track, and Sterling Exchange, winner of the grey horses race at Te Rapa at his last start.
