Athlete killed in collision

PA Masterton A Carterton athlete died on Sunday afternoon when the car in which she was a passenger collided with a motor-cycle at a Masterton intersection. She was Beverley Coley, aged 32. Mrs Coley was prominent inmiddle-distance races on the track, and over long distances, especially the halfmarathon and marathon. She was a passenger in a car driven by Mr Dennis Rose, also of Carterton. The motor-cyle was ridden by Brian Paul Henriksen, of Wellington. The car rolled over and Mr Henriksen was trapped underneath.

Mr Rose was admitted to hospital with minor head injuries and Mr Henriksen was admitted with head and chest injuries. Mrs Coley suffered fatal head injuiries.

Mr Henriksen was reported as being in a serious condition in Masterton Hospital’s, intensive-care unit.

Mr Rose was described as being in a satisfactory condition.
