RCA Colombia Hoyts Video has a good line-up this month, including “Desperately Seeking Susan,” starring the superstar Madonna; with Rosanna Arquette and Aidan Quinn. The story is about two young women who become entwined in each other’s affairs to the stage where they exchange clothes, identities and even menfriends. But Susan does not know that there is a killer on her trail. This movie contains Madonna’s number one hit “Into the Groove.” Other releases include “Lifeforce,” a movie based on the book, “The Space Vampires.” It stars Steve Railsback, Peter Firth and Frank Finlay. This movie is one of the most lavish science fiction productions. With an estimated cost of $22.5 million, it is more than your usual scary science fiction production. The crew of the space ship Churchill attempt to bring home perfectly preserved, seemingly human, specimens found in space
in the vicinity of Halleys Comet. Only the Churchill’s sole survivor knows of the devastation about to strike Earth.
Katharine Hepburn and Nick Nolte star in “The Ultimate Solution of Grace Quigley,” the multi Oscar-winning story of an ageing but spry Grace Quigley who accidentally witnesses the contract killing of her lousy landlord.
The killer makes his getaway unaware that Grace is hiding in the back seat. She gets away unseen, but goes back to tell him what she knows and to ply for his services for her own death. While raising the contract fee, Grace drums up business for him by telling her old cronies about him and, of course, because they feel they have lived their lives, business is booming. However, they have a common bond, each wanting a mother/son relationship, and they find their relationship grows as they continue their mission as angels of mercy. Nominated for four
Academy Awards, “In Cold Blood” was one of the last of the significant black and white films made in the sixties. It is the non-fiction story of the arbitrary murder of a prosperous farmer, his wife and two teen-age children by two disaffected loners. Its stars include Robert Balek, Scott Wilson and John Forsythe. A lot of laughs are had in “How To Save Your Marriage And Ruin Your Life,” starring Dean Martin, Stella Stevens, Eli Wallach and Anne Jackson.
The title of this movie says it all, “The Greatest,” and what else could it be, but a look at the life of the world’s greatest boxer, Muhammad Ali. It stars (that’s right) Muhammad Ali as himself, along with Ernest Borgnine, John Marley, Lloyd Hayes and guest appearances by Robert Duvall.
“Creature” is a story about a strange alien that lives on the moon of the
planet of Saturn. It attacks the humans who have reached the moon in their exploration of space, and they have a battle to get
off the planet again. The final release is “Heated Vengeance,” a suspense tale of good versus evil, set in the
savage jungles of Laos. A Vietnam veteran, Joe Hoffman, returns to Laos to search for his lover, Michelle, he had to leave behind 13 years before. He runs into Larry Bingo, a brutal officer from his old commando unit. Bingo is living in a deserted army barracks where he distils opium. When he sees Joe he remembers all the old hates and grudges of the war days and decides to kill him. It takes all of the skills Joe can remember from the war days to stay out of his reach.
