New sprint records

NZPA-Reuter East Berlin East Germany’s world champion, Marita Koch, beat her own world indoor record for the women’s 200 metres at the national championships at Senftenberg on Sunday. Koch’s time of 22.33 seconds was 0.06 seconds inside her previous best, set at the European indoor championships at Budapest, in 1983. Earlier, Koch’s world best for the 100 metres was beaten by her compatriot, the world long jump champion and recordholder, Heike Drechsler. Drechsler clocked 10.24 seconds, 0.01 of a second faster than Koch.
