Kerry Lane retired
PA New Plymouth The Auckland Cup winner, Kerry Lane, has been retired from racing. The Super Gray mare’s future will lie in the broodmare paddock, according to her Hawera trainer, Don Couchman. Kerry Lane rose to surprise fame with a game win, at odds of more than 45-1, in the Auckland Cup on New Year’s Day, by far the most important win of her career. Couchman advised her owners, Mr and Mrs Barry Neville-White, to line) the mare up in the . CujP They had bought her,
for $65,000 only days before her Ellerslie win, solely for her broodmare potential. Kerry Lane, a six-year-
old, won eight and placed in 23 of her starts for earnings of almost $190,000.
Her other notable success was in the U.D.C. Finance Handicap at Trentham.
She was also stakes placed in the Manawatu Racing Club’s Kubota Cup and the Auckland Racing Club’s Oliver Nicholson
Handicap. The decision to retire the mare was made by her owners at the; weekend. 4*
