Shipping news Quail Island excursions

Quail Island is still proving to be a popular day’s excursion for local people, although interest in the daily guided walk has fallen off, according to Mr Dave Forrester, of the Lands and Survey Department. Each walk now attracted between 15 and 20 people. This was less than in previous summers, but probably because most people had now done it, he said.

In the last few years Quail Island has gone from being virtually unknown to a popular day excursion, particularly for school parties. “Under the circumstances the patronage has been as good as we would have expected,” he said. Mr Forrester said there had been no waning of interest among people who wanted to go to the island to swim and have a picnic. Launch trips to the island will continue to run every day until April 27.
