319 cases of A.I.D.S. in Rwanda

NZPA-Reuter Kigali, Rwanda The tiny, landlocked central African State of Rwanda has disclosed that it had diagnosed 319 cases of A.1.D.5., and 106 of the victims had died. The Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Mr Francois Muganza, told the ruling party congress that 86 of the A.I.D.S. sufferers were children under 15.

The figures were by far the largest acknowledged by any African State. Rwanda has a population of 4.5 million people in an area of just over 26,000 sq. km.

Mr Muganza condemned foreign media who, he said, had sensationalised the presence of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome here and had suggested A.I.D.S. orginated in Rwanda.
