The European Economic Community will give Tonga about six million ECU (sAust7.7 million), under the Lome 111 convention. The E.E.C.’s new resident adviser to Tonga, Mr Stefan Zens, said the projects to receive this money will be confirmed by March. Tonga will also decide soon on how to spend 1.1 million ECU left over from Lome 11. The Lome 111 allocation is an increase of 1.9 million ECU over the Lome II allocation.
Tonga has a new programme to designate each foreign aid donor to the development of different regions of the kingdom, with the E.E.C. as the key donor for Vava’u in northern Tonga. The six million ECU is allocated for the development of Vava’u.
