Wool prices good at Napier sale

PA Napier Prices were generally good at the Napier wool sale yesterday, although not as strong as on the first day, Wednesday. Some 50,662 bales were offered during the two-day sale, including 21,770 bales yesterday. Principal buyers yesterday were Eastern Europe and the Middle East, with support from China and the Continent. The offering was 43 per cent crossbred fleece, 26 per cent early-shorn and second-shear, 16 per cent lambs’, 5 per cent bulky oddments and 9 per cent shorter clothing oddments. Compared with the Invercargill sale on Thursday, best style fleece was generally in sellers’ favour and poorer style in buyers’ favour. Second-shear was in sellers’ favour. Bulky skirtings were firm, to sellers’ favour. Second pieces and locks were unchanged to 2.5 per cent dearer, and second-shear oddments were unchanged to sellers’ favour. Compared with the Napier sale on Wednesday, first lambs were unchanged and second lambs were unchanged to buyers’favour. Some attractive lots of good to super fleece were available but over all the fleece was of not quite as good colour as earlier offerings with some lines showing water stain. More tender wool came forward in this sale.

Early-shorn and secondshear fleece was mainly of good style, slightly more colour being noticeable. The lambs’ wool, although mainly shorter in stapled categories, was of good and good to super style and colour, only the odd lot showing any degree of discolouration.

Wool Board activity was limited to a minimal number of neglected lots.
