Whitbread race
Sir,—The last remnants of global communication appear to be love, music, and sport. As we brace ourselves to welcome our magnificent global yachtsmen at Auckland, what “moral yardstick” for official welcome will be used? Will they be “officially received,” after sporting contact, assistance, and hospitality from kindred folk in Cape Town recently, or will they be ostracised like the thwarted All Blacks whose South African tour was aborted for seemingly parallel reasons? Parliament has several skilled lawyers who could surely clarify in one simple sentence this puzzling anomaly, starting perhaps with the Pnme Minister. — Yours, etc., JOHN T.RST.TR December 26, 1985.
