I’m not one to gossip, but Robert Wagner is really very, very upset at the bad ratings his new series “Lime Street” is receiving. It has dropped to number 63 in the ratings and that is the loss of death. He is now making desperate efforts to raise the ratings and is trying to book some big names to appear on the series: Sophia Lorren, Kirk Douglas, Fred Astaire and Joan Collins head the list Mary Noel is Larry Hagman’s first grandaughter. His son, Preston, and his wife, Starla, are also delighted. Hagman was so delighted that he gifted the new born and her parents with a $375,000 home in the posh Pacific Palisades. I was at. a party at Eva Gabor’s beautiful Beverley Hills home recently. Well, all was going well until her recent steady date, the talkshow king, Merv Griffin, showed up. You see, Griffin was meant to be Eva’s date, but he turned up with Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia who is Catherin Oxenberg’s mother. Well, the Stook a bit of a cool g for a while, but it was still a good party and very elegant at that. Jane Russell, who is 64 was also
a guest. She looked terrific after shedding six kilograms. She was in California doing a P.R. tour for her book, which, if everything goes well, looks set to be a best seller. John Travolta will be returning to TV. He has just signed for A.B.C. in a miniseries called “Mary and Joseph.” The series will not begin screening until Christmas, 1987, and will be directed by Franco Zeffirelli. Mick Jagger has turned down some really big dollars to pose nude for “Playgirl” magazine. Surely they could come up with a better body than his! I was amazed on the flight over here. One of the lady passengers asked our Air New Zealand steward if he had “Playgirl” magazine as an in-flight magazine. He didn’t, but I thought, well, there’s a strike for woman’s lib! I saw Liz Taylor at the theatre, and she looked amazing. In fact, she looked like a woman half her age, and stunning. What does she look like close up? Great, and I am sure she has never had a face lift. She sat only two seats away from me so I had lots of time to look; mind you, I was very polite about it, you understand.
Little Brooke Shields is just about scared to death by this crazy weirdo fan who is actually following her from city to city. He is sending her bizarre notes insisting that they are husband and wife. Now she and her mother have hired two very big bodyguards which go with them everywhere.
An intruder broke into Barbra Streisands’s Malibu home recently and ran off with more than $50,000 in electronic equipment and 3es. Now Barbra has ed a further $20,000 worth of alarms.
Here in California there is a telephone number which you can ring every day to find out what happened on your favourite soapie, so there is no need now to miss any of the goings on. Talk about goings on this morning, I spent a few hours on the “The Young and the Restless” set at C.B.S. Well, there really are some goings on there, both on and off the camera. One of the leading stars is very much an alcoholic off camera and causes the cast and crew great problems after a night on the tiles, but my lips are sealed!
