Spies face death penalty

NZPA-AP Seoul South Korean national police headquarters has announced the arrest of 11 people who allegedly spied in South Korea for years under North Korean instructions.

The . announcement said they belonged to eight different Communist espionage rings, at least five of them based in Japan.

The alleged spies were turned over to the prosecution authorities for further action on espionage charges. The maximum penalty is death. Officials said the alleged spies obtained and supplied information on South Korean and American military units in Seoul, and coastal areas close to the south-north border.
