Smash-and-grab charge laid

A man appeared in the District Court on Saturday after a $29,000 smash-and-grab raid on a central Christchurch jewellery shop earlier in the day. The police found the man, aged 32, in possession of what they alleged were proceeds from a raid on Kennedy’s Diamond Rings, Ltd, in High Street. Airborne officers had spotted queues of up to two dozen cars travelling at snails’ pace behind caravans, he said.
