Man charged with murder

PA Wellington A man, aged 28, was arrested yesterday and charged with murder after the stabbing of a man at Paraparaumu on Saturday evening. The stabbing occurred at the Paraparaumu railway station at 8.45 p.m. in a brawl in which at least one other man was hurt.

The man stabbed was Murray William Howell, aged 26, of Paraparaumu, who suffered a stab wound to the chest and died soon after.

Homicide investigators set up base at the Paraparaumu Fire Station before midday yesterday. The man arrested will appear in court this morning.

The police investigation, under Detective Inspector Jim Mansell, is continuing. The police say they are speaking to other people they believe were involved.

Detective Sergeant Ron Chatt said yesterday that several people had been involved in the brawl and that the inquiry was some way from completion.
