Toilet campaign leader hopes for deluge of rain

The Hornby toilet campaigner, Mr Brian Brown, hopes for a downpour on February 28 or March 1, during the visit to Christchurch by the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Given enough rain, one of their functions could be cancelled, and the way would be open for a Royal visit to his shop toilet, he said. Mr Brown, who owns a dairy in Hornby, has been campaigning for more toilets in the Hornby shopping centre for more than a year. He said last month that more than 25 people used his shop’s toilet each day because of inadequate facilities in the area. Mr Brown said he was

disappointed that his toilet was left off the original Royal tour ' itinerary, although he sent Queen a costly telegram of invitation in early December. He was philosophical, however, about the omission, and the lack of a reply from Buckingham Palace. "Perhaps the telegram got there too late and they haven’t had a chance to reply yet,” Mr Brown said. If there is no rain during the Royal visit, Mr Brown will pin his hopes on luring the Pope to Hornby when he visits next year. “It wouldn’t hurt to ask him. I don’t see why he wouldn’t come. After, all, I’ve been going to his house for years,” Mr Brown said.
