Two fishermen hurt at sea
Greymouth reporter A Japanese fisherman is reported in a stable condition in the Grey Hospital with a broken rib after being landed from a squid boat off the entrance to Greymouth Harbour yesterday morning. Noburu Tobizuka, aged 24, was apparently injured when hit by an anchor on Thursday. Another Japanese fisherman, from a second squid boat, was landed in Westport on Thursday after suffering a severely gashed hand. He was treated at the Buller Hospital but when his ship tried to return yesterday to collect him, it was unable to do so because of bar conditions. The fisherman was transferred by road to Greymouth and taken out by the Greymouth Harbour Board tug William Steer to his ship. The William Steer then
went to the second squid boat — both of them standing off the northern harbour tip head — and brought Mr Tobizuka ashore. Mr Tobizuka was landed at the Greymouth wharf and taken to hospital by ambulance. The Grey Hospital said that an interpreter was there to help him converse with doctors and staff.
