Graham Postles, of Nelson, winning the annual “Iron Man” title for the second time. He also won the eVent in 1981. Postles won by 17s from Tony Woodall, also of Nelson. Sue Hawes (Nelson), the first woman home, was placed tenth over all. The 77 contestants competed in what race officials described as the worst conditions in the six years the contest-has been held.
