Ducal heir on drugs count

NZPA-PA London The Marquis of Blandford will appear in court today after cocaine valued at £ 50,000 ($136,900) was seized.

Blandford is a greatnephew of the late Sir Winston Churchill.

He was among five people arrested in London on Friday. All had been charged with conspiracy to contravene the Misuse of Drugs Act, said a Scotland Yard spokesman. One of the five is also charged with the unlawful possession of firearms, namely three semi-auto-matic pistols, and 200 rounds of ammunition.

Blandford, aged 30, an insurance broker, was

charged under the name of James Spencer-Churchill and gave his address as Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire.

The five, who are being held at a central London police station, will appear at Marylebone Magistrate’s Court.

The other four charged are: George Yiallakas, aged 33, a company director, Angilos Savvides, aged 37, a businessman; Melanie Soszynski, aged 36, unemployed; and Lawrence Zephyr, aged 53, a club owner.

Zephyr is further charged with unlawful possession of firearms. Blandford is the son and heir of the 11th Duke of Marlborough. '
