N.Z. jumping title won by John Cottle

PA Palmerston North New Zealand’s most experienced horseman, John Cottle, of Wellington, called all the shots in the final day of the three-day New Zealand indoor championships

at Palmerston North on Saturday. When the champion class came down to two horses and riders, Cottle, riding Heritage, and Glenn Pearce, of Hunterville, on Ups an’ Ddwns, it was Cottle who won.

Although Heritage took a rail in the jump-off, his time was a brilliant three seconds in front of Ups an’ Downs, which also clipped a pole. In the grade A pony in-, door title, Martinborough’s Catriona McLeod looked like sharing the prize with her two ponies, Flicka and Ballyhoo, but only Flicka went clear in the final round. Results:

A and B class: Crosby (H. Wilson, Waitotara), 1; Bounty Girl (V. Cropp, Cambridge), 2; Whoze He (G. Wilson, Hunterville), 3; Buckingham (C. Honeywill, Invercargill), 4. A grade pony: Talamanca (D. Webb, Hunterville), 1; Glanville Road (M. Cooper, Stratford), 2; Ballyhoo (C. McLeod, Martinborough), 3, Misty Morn (D. Webb, Hunterville), 4. New Zealand indoor horse championships; Heritage (J. Cottle), 1; Ups an’ Downs (G. Pearce), 2; Reservation (T. Webb, Hunterville), Buckingham (C. Honeywill), wide (M. Beatson, Dannevirke), Bounty Girl (V. Cropp), equal
