Listing by Malaysian Airline today
NZPA-Reuter Kuala Lumpur Shares in the State-con-trolled Malaysian Airlines System (M.A.S.) will be listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange today, the M.A.S. chairman, Tan Sri Raja Mohar Badiozamane, has announced. The public listing was originally set for December 9. Share prices on the stock exchanges in Kuala Lumpur and in Singapore slumped sharply when trading resumed, after unprecendented suspension. The market steadied last week, however, with prices continuing to climb, brokers
said. Trading on the two exchanges was halted to prevent panic selling after Singapore-based Pan Electric Industries, Ltd, went into receivership with debts of SUSI9SM (SNZ36BM). A reason could be that M.A.S. wanted to beat Singapore Airlines (5.1. A. to the public listing to attract buyers to the M.A.S. issue, one broker said. An issue of SIA shares, oversubscribed 2.5 times, is due to be listed on the Stock Exchange of Singapore on December 18. The M.A.S. issue was oversubscribed by more than six times.
