Sumner ‘wet-bikes’

Sir,—l cannot believe the City Council is considering licensing a wet-bike concession at Sumner. Councillor Burn claims these machines cause no noise disturbance. This is untrue. Each weekend a wet-bike is driven off Sumner. It is very noisy. It is also dangerous, as it travels at high speed close to surfers and swimmers. I have tried to get the City Council to enforce its marine regulations on this without success. Who is going to police the four wet-bikes? The beach at Sumner is a lovely asset for all Christchurch people. It will be wrecked if four noisy wet-bikes are allowed to operate.—Yours, etc., PAUL CORWIN. December 10, 1985.
