Canty yacht under P.N.G. flag
The Syndicate, Christchurch'S unsuccessful hope for. the Southern Cross Cup yacht racing series* in Australia, has got there anyway — under the Papua-New Guinea flag. The Farr 40 never really had a fair chance to make either of the three-boat New Zealand teams for the Cup defence out of Sydney this month.

She will be sailed by a, crew of four New Guineans and six Banks Peninsula keeler men, Mel Seiwood, lan Page, Dave Smithey, Bernie Whyte, and Evan and Gary Paterson. Papua-New Guinea is a relative newcomer to bigtime yacht racing, “but they are getting there,” according to lan Franklin. Two Papua-New Guineaowned boats as well as The Syndicate will contest the series under the Papua-New Guinea flag. -
