Canty anniversary plans
Canterbury’s 135th anniversary will be celebrated in style on Monday. Tribute will be paid to Canterbury’s past, and a toast proposed to the future, at an Anniversay Day function in the Great Hall of the Canterbury Provincial Buildings. About 160 people have been invited to the event, which has been organised by the Canterbury Promotion Council.
Earlier in the day, the ceremonial changing of the guard and beating of the retreat by the New Zealand Army will be held in North Hagley Park at 5.30 p.m. Early Anniversary Day celebrations will begin this week-end. The Canterbury Pilgrims and Early Settlers’ Association will hold a garden party tomorrow for members and invited guests. The public are once again
> invited to take part on > Friday in the Bridle Path > commemorative walk from I Ferrymead to Lyttelton, i The walk will begin at Ferrymead Historic Park at r 1 p.m. i A service will be held in r Christchurch Cathedral at ’ 11 a.m. Afterwards, a chaplet will be placed on • the Godley statue by members of the Pilgrims and i Early Settlers’ Association.
