Special correspondent Palmerston North Fuego galloped soundly yesterday morning at Woodville in preparation for the Horowhenua Centennial Cup at the Otaki Maori Racing Club’s meeting. Gallops took place on the plough, which was fast There was little activity as organised trials were planned for later in the morning.
Fuego ran 1400 m in 1:30.2. He picked up Ego at the 1200 m and they finished together in 1:15.9, the final 680 m in 375. Fuego has not raced since November 2, but is fit He was to have raced in the Avondale Cup, but did not have enough weight to make the field. Maree Lyndon will ride him and he should be hard to beat. Ego will contest the Golden Coast Country Mile. Star Knight bowled over 1000 m in 1:2.7, the last 600 m in 38s. He went an improved race at Waipukurau and is in the Otaki Borough Maiden. Numero Uno clocked 38.5 s for 600 m. Bridge Player started about four lengths behind Imeth at the 1200 m. He closed in the straight, but Imeth still held an advantage after recording 1:16.8, the final 600 m in 36.85. Imeth is an improver in the highweight at Otaki. Bridge Player is an acceptor for the Cup and would appreciate rain. Phareef and Secret Seal

Secret Seal, a half-brother to Vin d’Amour, > finished third in his debut at Waipukurau. Tantril went 1000 m in 1:3.9, the final 600 m in 365. She will line up in the Northrop Maiden if it rains.
