High-country treks planned
An adventure trek in the Arthur’s Pass region has been launched by a young enterprising Christchurch couple. Miss Mary Dobson and Mr Stephen Philip, who have formed a company called New Zealand Treks, conceived the idea after seeing how popular many of the South Island tramps were becoming. Mr Philip said yesterday that as a frequent tramper in the Arthur’s Pass area he had often heard favourable remarks from tourists about the scenic appeal of the area.
“During the last two months we have been out
promoting the five-day adventure which includes a night and day on the highcountry station, Flock Hill, run by Mrs Philippa Innes,” Mr Philip said. “The adventure costs about $350 and includes my guiding service, accommodation in huts and at Flock Hill, transport, and meals.
“I will be the sole guide for parties of up to five trampers and we will hire another guide for parties of six to 10 trampers.” After four days of bush and mountain tramping, the fifth day, at Flock Hill, will include horse riding, canoeing, windsurfing, and ■ fishing
