Kahu Del ready to win at Hutt Park

Special correspondent Wellington The promising mare Kahu Del, should continue her fine form when she contests the Bayer Rintal Mobile Pace at Hutt Park this evening. The Derek Jones-trained four-year-old turned in a fine performance to win at Manawatu last Friday, overcoming two breaks during the running to come out on top in most impressive fashion. Her form before coming north was also first class, with two seconds and then a victory at Addington. She will be going for a hat-trick in this evening’s first leg and her front row draw should have her prominent throughout. She will have the services of Anthony Butt, who has been in fine form this season and is currently in second equal place on the drivers’ premiership with 21 wins. Heading the premiership

and well out in front is Tony Herlihy with 31 wins. He combines with Gaelic Skipper this evening and he looks the toughest opponent for Kahu Del. Gaelic Skipper is a most consistent performer and he did not have much luck in his two outings at Manawatu. He “flew” home late on the first night to finish a close second to Adover Star and then ran on strongly for fifth on Friday after being well buried at the back. He has drawn nicely on the front this time and Herlihy should have him much handier to the pace. Adover Star showed his first night Manawatu win was no fluke by running a good second on Friday behind Mer Man. He is racing very solidly and should be close up again. Canto Boy, a stablemate of Kahu Del, ran a better race on the second evening at Manawatu, while Mur-

ray’s News, though slightly disappointing at Manawatu, has a good record at Hutt Park. Beau du Jour, which looked so good last term, should return to form when he contests the L. J. Lyons Golden Anniversary Mobile Pace, the second leg of the T.A.B. double. Beau du Jour was not far behind the best juveniles last season and one of his best efforts was a second to Sir Alba in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes. He has been disappointing in four starts this term but has been allowed to freshen since last racing. He is a recent trial winner and should hold too many guns for this field. Fergus Mclvor raced well on the track last month and should go well, in spite of a second row draw, while Mauramack followed up good trials form with a solid second fresh-up at Manawatu last week.
