DISTRICT NOXIOUS PLANTS AUTHORITY OF PAPARUA/WAIMAIRI PUBLIC NOTIFICATION OF DISTRICT PROGRAMME THE D.N.P.A. which comprises the combined area of Paparua County Council and Waimairl District Council, gives public notice that the District Programme on Noxious Plants eradication and control is being revised. As required under Section 36(1) of the Noxious Plants Act 1978. Occupiers in the combined area are invited to comment or object to the proposed programme, and such comments or objections may become part of the District Programme after due consideration by the District Authority. The following is the list of noxious plants: “Class A” Plants Johnson Grass, Water Hyacinth, Water Lettuce, Salvlnia, Cape Tulip. “Class B” Plants Target Plants — African Feather Grass, Barberry, Boxthorn, Bur Daisy, Nasella Tussock, Nodding thistle, Saffron thistle, Variegated thistle. Surveillance Plants — Bathurst bur. Widespread Plants — Blackberry, Broom, Gorse, Hawthorn Hemlock, Montpellier Broom, Sweet Brier, White Broom. PROGRAMME 1. “Target Plants” are plants of limited distrlcution where eradication is considered possible providing a suitable and sustained programme is Implemented. Eliminate all existing plants and followup on regrowth and seedlings. Barberry and Boxthorn hedges are to be trimmed annually both sides and top or eradicated. “Target” plants take precedence over “Widespread” plants. 2. “Surveillance Plants” are plants of concern that are now believed to have been eradicated. Any regrowth of “Surveillance” plants to be treated as "target” plants and must be eradicated. 3. “Widespread Plants” are plants that are widely distributed and abundant In suitable habitats In the district or which colonise as soon as these habitats become available. Eradicate scattered plants and small infestations. Maintain a minimum of 10m w.lde strip free of plants from boundaries. Contain larger infestations. Roadside and boundary clearance to take precedence and will be strictly enforced. Noxious Plants on Roadsides The eradication of noxious plants from roadsides is the responsibility of the adjoining land occupier/owner. Hedges of Noxious Plants All hedges consisting of noxious plants are to be trimmed both sides and top at least once a year, this is to minimise seeding and fruiting. The above is a summary of part of the proposed District Authority Programme giving a broad indication for programming eradication and control of the Class B Noxious Plants. The full proposed District Authority Programme is available from the Paparua County Council and Waimairl District Council offices. Comments or objections to the proposed District Programme are Invited from owners/occupiers untill 4 p.m., November 14, 1985 and may be lodged at the appropriate Council offices. J.
