Quiet week-end for champion

A fairly quiet week-end is planned for the Australian pacing star, Preux Chevalier, as he prepares for the final week of his preparation for the 1225,000 Toyota New -Zealand Cup at Addington Raceway on Tuesday week.

The son of Lumber Dream has settled in perfectly at Bill Denton’s Russley Lodge, Tai Tapu, and has been jogged, each day since his arrival on Wednesday night by his trainer, Barry Perkins. “We’ve got nothing definite planned for any major trial leading up to the Cup,” said his part-owner, Mr Ken Lavin, yesterday. “Even though he hasn’t raced since September 21 and missed a few days of work, he’s actually done a lot lately,” he said. And that was certainly

how he looked yesterday. The well-muscled stallion looked completely relaxed and more interested in sleeping than anything else. Both his owner and his trainer are expressing little interest in running him at the Cup trials next Thurs-

day. '4 “We’ve made no decisions about a start there. Barry can get him ready for the Cup without a run at trials," 4 said Mr Lavin. If Preux Chevalier is not to start at the trials, perhaps- dub officials could influence ttie connections of the horse to parade him, as his appearance would no doubt be a tremendous boost to interest in the feature race.
