Malvern approves
The first stages of the development of camping facilities at the Glentunnel Domain have been approved by the Malvern County Council
The council’s finance committee on October 2 had considered a development plan prepared by the Glentunnel Recreation Reserve Managemment Committee.
It recommended to the council that the plan be approved in principle. It also said that further details of development costs were needed and that there, might be some Government finance towards the project The plan listed the de-
velopment in two stages. Stage one included the installation of power points, access to the area, construction of an ablution block, and water reticulation. It estimated this would cost 544,000.
Stage two would include construction of a caretaker's residence and development of an additional camping area. The cost of this was estimated at 540,000.
Cr W. G. R. Deans asked the council on Friday to approve some of the work of stage one, provided the amount spent did not exceed the preliminary bud-
get figures. He proposed that work start on installation of power points and construction of the ablution block, to have those facilities available to campers by Christmas.
The budget has allowed 512,000 for the power points and 525,000 for the ablution block. Cr Deans said the Domain Board’s income for the year would be increased if the limited facilities were available by Christmas. The County Clerk, Mr B. W. Perrin, said firmer estimates on the total cost of the project were needed but that it might be possible
