Stephen Little suspended
Stephen Little was suspended until after October 5 following an inquiry into an incident in the Skifield Pace at the Methven Club’s spring meeting on Saturday. Little, the driver of Fly Boyden Fly, was found guilty of careless driving. His horse struck the back of the sulky of Shipmate with about 1200 m to run, causing that horse to lose all chance. The collapse of the win favourite, Freightman, with less than 1600 m to run in the Methven Cup came under scrutiny. According to the official report, a veterinary examination disclosed nothing was wrong with the horse. However, a certificate of
fitness must be produced before the horse races again. A cardiograph examination is also to be undertaken. Simon David has been declared unruly for both standing and mobile start races. Falcon Lad was.pulled up with a broken pastern in the Methven Hotel Handicap. Art Mac Faber was a late scratching from the Marawhiti Handicap after an examination by a veterinary surgeon. The connections of Select Wave and Lew Foy were warned to improve the racing manners of their horses. Both broke in the Methven Cup, causing interference to other runners.
