250 apply to leave unions
PA Wellington' Applications have been made by 250 people for exemption from compulsory unionism since it was reintroduced by the Government a month ago, said the Registrar of Unions, Mr John Scott, yesterday. Under the new rules, workers wishing to be exempt must write to the Union Membership Exemption Tribunal. Mr Scott said that he was surprised by the number of applications. In the past, there had been an average of about 200 a year.
