Canty retains bowls trophy
Canterbury indoor bowlers’ held off North Otago’s challenge for the A. S. Paterson Trophy, played at the Kearneys Road Hall, with a clearcut 41-15 win.
North Otago teams combined well to square the fours games, but Canterbury was clearly superior in pairs play, winning all of its eight matches. Singles also went to Canterbury, with nine wins to four, and three games drawn.
Leon McLennan’s Canterbury team of Maurice Berkeley, lan Kamo and Gary Lawson had a first-class match, losing only two singles games for the day.
Canterbury’s final challenge for the season, and perhaps the strongest, will come from South Canterbury on July 13. One change has been made to the Canterbury team, with David Philpott replacing Bill Trembath.
