Prosecution dropped
PA Auckland The Ministry of Transport says it has decided not to prosecute a woman who was raped in Mount Eden in April on her way home after her car keys were confiscated. The assistant chief superintendent, Mr Henry Gore, said yesterday that the decision was made on humanitarian grounds. “To proceed would be to exact a far higher price than the public interest requires,” he said. Controversy surrounded the circumstances in which she was allowed to walk home early in the morning after her keys were confiscated by traffic officers.
