Periodic detention for theft of boat
Periodic detention for three months was imposed by Judge Fogarty in the District Court yesterday on Robert Dudley Burns, aged 30, earlier convicted of stealing a boat and trailer, valued at $17,000. Burns (Mr J. B. Stringer) committed the offence on February 26. He told the police he had planned to sell the unit, as he needed money to support a drug habit. Bums said he had been following another car towing a boat and trailer. The boat and trailer became dislodged. The items were recovered. Mr Stringer said his client, until this year, had received no treatment for his drug addiction. It had been planned for Burns to receive treatment at Queen Mary Hospital at Hanmer Springs but this had fallen through and his client was now undergoing treatment in the Salvation Army’s, Bridge programme. #
