There was no “Dominion” published yesterday. “Dominion” journalists said they walked out to express anger at the refusal of Independent Newspapers, Ltd, to send a news journalist to cover aspects of the All Black tour of South
Africa The “Evening Post” journalists said yesterday that they understood and strongly sympathised with the “Dominion” s'aff’s reaction; but did not decide then on direct action to support it. “Post” journalists have sent a delegation to their management to press the case for the newspaper’s sending a news reporter to South Africa. The I.N.L. group is sending two sports journalists, one to represent the group’s
morning newspapers and one for its evening papers. I.N.L. journalists say they believe this is inadequate and have asked for news journalists to be sent as well, to cover non-sporting aspects which they expect to be prominent during the tour, a spokesperson for the New Zealand Journalists’ Union said yesterday. The spokesman said journalists believed readers at home should be given news reports from a New Zealander’s perspective.
