Attitude to South Africa

Sir, — As a member of the Anglican Church I am fed up with the political selective stance being taken by our church and supported by the Dean of Christchurch, the Very Rev. David Cole. This week his Christian message over radio was anti-South Africa, and a eulogisation of Bishop Tutu and his successor. If the Dean of Christchurch can spend two successive days selecting Africa as his message of Christianity, God help him and the church. If South Africa was to become like other African states and be run or desecrated by the tribal blacks, there is no way they would improve South Africa’s stability. The naivety of Dean Cole and, I fear of Archbishop Reeves, in seemingly wanting this revolution for Africa, must bring grave doubts to many Christians in New Zealand. — Yours, etc., BILL TOLHURST, Wanganui. June 26, 1985.
