Life in Finland
Sir, — M. Creel is unaware that four decades ago the Soviet Union took control and now occupies onethird of Finland, my homeland. I have just read the Socialist Unity Party newspaper and learned that Mike Creel is president of the local N.Z.-U.S.S.R. Society. Mr Creel made a commentary in the S.U.P. paper about a fellow comrade, the founder of the S.U.P. Mr Creel’s beloved Russian empire is vastly different from the peaceful paradise he projects. My relatives on the Russian border keep me informed on what is really happening. S.U.P. and Soviet club members are not well informed because they rely on information released by the Kremlin. News reporters get shot if they attempt to take photographs and wander freely about, so how can anything from the Kremlin be believed? The Soviets are the only threat to Finland because they want to add it to the bloc. — Yours, etc., MAMA KURKELA. April 1, 1985.
