Majestic Angel fancied at Avondale today

Special correspondent Auckland Majestic Angel, in her last race before the Great Northern Oaks, will probably attract more interest than any other runner at the Avondale Jockey Club’s meeting today. The Ra Ora Great Northern Oaks E just six days away and Majestic Angel, since her Sydney trip was called off, automatically became a favourite for Ellerslie. Her assignment today is the Ranui Handicap, a class 22200 m race in which, in the top half of the field, form abounds. Majestic Angel’s rivaE include Amloch, Limitless, James Brigand and Alvator, each a recent winner. Limitless, in fact, boasts a hattrick. Majestic Angel will need to race right up to if not beyond the form she has shown lately to win her third race on end and keep that big following for next Monday. Majestic Angel managed a highly creditable fourth in the New Zealand Oaks in January and, not remarkably for a three-year-old filly, has got better through the late summer and autumn. The Ranui Handicap is the second leg of the T.A.B. double. The first leg, the Selby Apprentices’ Handicap, looks between Anna Dell and, in spite of her wide barrier draw, Our Amethyst.
