One-day masters

NZPA-AFP Sharjah, U.A.R. India beat Australia by three wickets in the Rothmans Trophy cricket final at the week-end. Australia batted first and was dismissed in the fortythird over for 139. Graham Wood and Kepler Wessels had an opening partnership of 60, Wood making 27 and Wessels 30. However, the only other batsman to get past 20 was Alan Border, with 27. Azharuddin (22), Vengsarkar (35), Gavaskar (20) and Amarnath (24 not out) took India to a comfortable victory, the winning run coming in the fortieth over. ® The West Indies have agreed to send a team to, Sharjah in November to play in a league-style cricket competiton, organisers have said. India and Pakistan have not yet answered invitations. The event will be a benefit for Clive Lloyd, who retired as the West Indies captain after the World Championship of Cricket which ended in Australia earlier this month.
