Be nice to U.S. tourists — Minister
PA Wellington The Minister of Tourism, Mr Moore, has called on New Zealanders to go out of their way to be positive and friendly’towards American tourists. Mr Moore said Americans were still keen to take holidays in New Zealand in spite of the A.N.Z.U.S. nuclear-ship row. “In fact, our nuclear stance could be enhancing our image as a holiday destination and I got this impression during my visit to the United States,” he said. However, there had been telephone calls from the United States from people thinking of holidaying in New Zealand who did not really know where New Zealand was, and wondering if the people were antiAmerican, he said. "The call ought to be for New Zealanders to go out of their way to point out that we are pro-Western, proAmerican but not pronuclear. We are not ‘Fortress New Zealand’,” Mr Moore said.
