Former S.M. refused bail
NZPA-AAP Sydney A former New South Wales Chief Stipendiary Magistrate, Murray Farquhar, has been refused bail pending an appeal against a four-year jail sentence imposed on him for perverting the course of justice. In the Supreme Court on Friday, Mr Justice Maxwell said he was not satisfied there were special circumstances for bail. Farquhar had pleaded not guilty to having attempted to influence Mr Kevin Jones, S.M., during a committal hearing of misapproriation charges against a former rugby league chief, Kevin Humphreys, on August 11, 1977. Evidence was given that Farquhar told Mr Jones that the N.S.W. Premier did not want Humphreys committed.
